Why I’ll “Bloom” Unapologetically for 2025

Faced with choosing one word for 2025, I decided on “bloom.” This word perfectly captures where I am in life and where I’m headed. Blooming isn’t about starting fresh — it’s about thriving where you’ve planted yourself, even if it took time to find the right soil.

At 68, I’m achieving my dream of being a writer. Last month, I sold my first article to AWAI — which fills me with equal parts pride and disbelief. My dad used to call me a “late bloomer.” Apparently, he knew me well.

But here’s the thing: Blooming late doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

The Roots of My Journey

I originally started off as a bank teller. But after a run-in with a gun-toting bank robber, I decided I wasn’t being paid enough! So, I switched to corporate finance. It was stable, structured, and boring as can be. It paid the bills, but deep down, I dreamed of being a writer.

Eight years ago, I decided to nurture that dream. I took courses through AWAI, joined Circle of Success, and racked up 10 certifications.

Finally, I challenged that little voice in my head whispering, “Who are you to call yourself a writer?” Impostor syndrome can be tough to silence, but I’m learning to press on anyway.

The Bloom Moment

This year, something happened. My husband and I launched a new venture called See Things Differently. It’s more than a business — it’s a mission to help companies tackle challenges through fresh perspectives.

Jeff, who is blind, leads the charge with unwavering determination. I’m proud to stand beside him as his partner and support system (and spell checker!).

We’ve already accomplished a major milestone. Our first book, Cyber Ollie’s Ultimate Guide: Fraud and Scams, went live on Amazon recently.

Seeing my name alongside Jeff’s as co-author was a personal bloom moment — proof it’s never too late to create something meaningful. This isn’t just about writing a book; it’s about planting seeds that will grow into a safer, more informed world.

Why “Bloom” Fits 2025

This year, I want to unapologetically bloom in every area of my life:

  • Personally: I’ll work on silencing self-doubt and fully embrace my new life as a writer.
  • Professionally: I’ll nurture our new venture and help others see challenges in a new light.
  • Creatively: I’ll write with confidence and strive to inspire readers with every word.

Blooming doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and the right environment.

For me, that environment includes AWAI’s resources, my husband’s unwavering support, and the belief it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

A Message to Fellow Late Bloomers

If you’re thinking, It’s too late for me, I’m here to tell you, “You’re wrong!” Whether you’re 28 or 68, the world needs your unique voice and perspective. Every late bloomer brings a richness and depth that can’t be rushed.

What will your word be? Whatever it is, I hope it inspires you to grow, thrive, and make 2025 your year to bloom.
